Animated Atrocities: Rosario+Vampire by Geekygirl43 Animated Atrocities: Rosario+Vampire by Geekygirl43
The story is stupid, the writing contradicts itself, the animation budget focuses on fan service way too much, there's rarely any following to classic monster mythology and lore, the plots are constantly recycled for each episode, and very few characters are likable. but for some reason this show has a fanbase, an English dub, and 2 seasons. But what really pisses me off is the story and it's characters. First of all, the universe has no idea how to handle classic vampire mythology and lore. Vampires are weak in the sun not water, plus rosaries and holy objects kill them YEASH! Also, why doesn't Tskune turn into a vampire after he's bitten? Isn't that how vampire's spread? In addition, with the rules at this school they say no changing into your monster form, but this rule is never enforced. Worse is these characters.
Tsukne, he’s a big wimp. However, I wouldn’t really blame him, I mean if I was in a school for dangerous monsters I’d run for it. For me Tskune is nothing too special, except used to drive the episodes forward, be Mr. socially awkward penguin and serve as a lover for Moka. Also, he never really does anything to stand up for himself, instead he tries to mend everything with Moka and never changes. He’s always a wimp, he can’t build a backbone, and he’s almost up there with Shinjii Ikari on wimp level. Hell, he's even worse than Shinji Ikari. While I am aware that this is also a Harem anime, this guy is worse than Tenchi from Tenchi Myuo. Tsukune not only does nothing but never tries to keep any backbone built. Every chance he gets at having a backbone he shatters it. Moka(Outter), a big ditzy cry baby that jumps to conclusions. Sure she’s caring, and wants to make friends but nearly every episode, she’s jumping to conclusions about Tskune, she never listens to him, and basically uses him for her blood supply. Every time Tskune makes a mistake, she jumps the gun and cries her eyes out. Let him explain, you don’t pay attention, you ignore his half entirely, and you cry your eyes out at the first explanation. If you had difficulty making friends in the human world it’s not a surprise why, you’re so sensitive to everything people do. Yet for some reason nearly all the boys in school fawn over her. Inner Moka, she seems to be more interesting as a character, she’s smarter, tougher, and tends to serve as pink haired Moka’s voice of reason when she’s all sob story. The sad part is, she’s not around for long and only serves to be the only kick ass character in the series. Unfortunately during her transformation we get this narration about what happens when her rosary is removed. FYI writers, there’s a cardinal rule called show don’t tell. We don’t need to be reminded every episode that she transforms when the rosary is removed. Kurumu, a succubus character that’s obviously the series’ big slut. I know succubi are supposed to be seducers and all, but come on, she’s constantly throwing her boobs into everyone’s faces, sluts up to nearly every guy and Tskune especially. I get it your goal is to make every guy in the school your man slave, but why fall for a wuss like Tskune? I know you want to prevent your kind from going extinct and all, but there are other guys out there. But what I really hate about her is that she’s such a show off about what she has and yet while other guys want her she chooses a wimp of a man. Also, she calls people names, thinks that it’s her way or no way at all, and is a down right whore bully. And Tskune thinks she’s a good person? Yukari, Big cliche, an elementary school aged super genius that skipped to high school. Another big surprise, she’s falling for Tskune, but she’s like 11. As for her, obviously she’s a witch. Apparently according to Yokari school, witches are neither accepted by humans or monsters because they’re in a line between the area. However, she’s annoying she’s mainly there to please the pedo bears out there, and possibly just there to be a rival to Kurumu. Worst of all she’s a teasing target since Kurumu is constantly saying, “DUR YOU HAVE NO BEWBS!” She’s only eleven she’s basically in the 5th or 6th grade at that age. Just a side note, if Kurumu’s boobs were as big as they are right now when she was 11 isn’t she a bit small for her species? For Mizore, she’s one of the more tolerable characters but she’s pretty emo but more so of a stalker. I mean it, every episode it’s her stalking around the school. She explains that she’s an ice monster of some sort later on, and was another typical reject. So she’s not that interesting.

However, another big problem is the animation, all we get is reused animation, panty shots, boob bouncing, panty shots, stiff movement, panty shots, and did I mention panty shots? Seriously, this anime has so many panty shots even Brook from One Piece would get bored. I know it's cultural difference and all but there is a fine line for taking them way too far, you're showing up skirt shots of an 11 year old at times. WHAT THE HELL!?

I am also feeling sorry for all the voice actors in the dub, they get used in everything but most of them did not deserve this, something this bad. Also, the songs are not that good and all of them are just saying I want to F*(K Tskune.

Overall, This was an animated atrocity in it's own, the plot has been done, the characters are unlikeable, and of course there’s almost as much fan service as there is in Ikkitousen. Yet for some strange reason it got not only an english dub, but a second season. Considering that there are still other anime out there that are really good, but still have no dub or second season is really sad. Even people who have read the manga claimed that this anime stunk. So yeah, when the manga is said to be much much better, avoid this show.

I don't like this show either, but for different reasons. 1) This show had almost nothing to do with the original manga of the same name, even going as far as to change similar plot lines. 2) Since it barely followed the source material, it toned down the dark story lines, interesting villains and got rid of most of the gore. 3) No equalists arc, and none of the characters from the latter half of the first volume of the series. 4) Since it got rid of the second half of the first volume of the series and barely touched on the second volume of the series, we never got to understand the effect that Moka drinking Tsukune's blood had on his body and on his sanity. 5) Nothing about why Mizore is pursuing Tsukune (a.e. a snowwoman is unable to have children when they turn 24). 6) It never shows the maturity that Ginei has, or his loyalty. 7) too much fanserivice. 8) Tsukune in the manga wasn't that wimpy. On numerous occasions, Tsukune sacrificed his body and put his life in danger in order to save Moka and his friends, and after nearly being turned into a ghoul, defeated several monsters by himself throughout the series. 9) The anime never dived into the relationship Moka had with her mother, which was the main plot point for the second volume of the series. 10) No Fangfang Huang. 11) Nothing from the second volume's Fairy Tale Arc either. 12) Moka's other sisters and her stepmother are absent in the series. 13) No further discussion on the three devil kings in the anime. 14) No mention of Alucard (Not the Hellsing Alucard, the R+V Alucard). 15) The human world doesn't find out the monster world exists like it did at the end of the second volume. 16) Inner Moka's softer side is never really shown in the anime. 17) Nothing on Moka's seal breaking, the other major plot point from the second volume. 18) No Haiji Minamoto. 19) Koko is reduced to a whiny fan-girl. 20) No Hitomi Ishigami. 21) Lady Oyakata wasn't dead in the manga. 22) No Hokuto Kaneshiro or Kiria Yoshi, the two main villains from the latter half of the first volume of the series and the allies from the second volume of the series. 23) The ending where the anime says "The statis quo is god", instead of the manga's heart braking destruction of outer Moka. 24) Tsukune doesn't become a vampire. 25) The bad comedy. 26) The overuse of stupid cliches. 27) No Lingling Huang. 28) People died in the manga series, but not in the anime. 29) We never meet the old Newspaper club president, who was one of the most kind characters in the manga. 30) No epic fights scenes like in the manga. 31) No final battle with Alucard. 32) and last, but the most important reason I hate the show, THAT ANNOYING BAT THE KEEPS CUTTING INTO THE SEGWAYS!!!! I swear that bat is happy if you took away his like ability, his loyalty and kind heart and made him twenty times more annoying. This show is a disgrace to the original manga, it took something mature, smart, dark, heart breaking, action packed and philosophical and made it juvenile, lazy, stupid and filled with nothing but fan service. Is there something positive I can say about this series. Well the music is rather nice, the animation is descent and the main characters seem to mostly be in character. I really hope that they revamp the series and give it an OVA in the same style of Hellsing OVA, allowing it to focus on the story lines and characters that the show needed. But until then, if ever, we're stuck with the worst disregard to the source material since Teen Titans Go!, a barely organized mess that should have been much better than it was. As for me, I'll stick with the manga. It's smarter, funnier, darker and more mature.

Okay, that was an.... Interesting rant. I happen to enjoy the show, and not for the fanservice. I actually like the manga more, as it gets some really good plots, but, really, it's a silly anime. Yes, there is fanservice, but people actually really love the characters. The writers used their own versions of the monsters, and I can respect that. And Kurumu does have a real character, and it's actually given many parts of episodes to nurture the relationships. There are flaws, but I still like it, Misore being my favorite. I mean, hate the show all you want, but please don't act like everyone who watches it are perverts, pedos, and annoying.

(P.S., I'm kind of a fan of stupid shows like this, but I actually do critique things to the best of my ability. I can see the obvious flaws, but I don't care. The show holds a special place in my heart. It was a milestone in my watching of anime. I do not wish to come off as rude here, so please excuse me if I offended you, or came off as rude.)
As someone who loves the manga, I really hated what they did to the characters in the anime. In the manga each of the characters, male and female, had their own arcs and troubles that they faced, sometimes with their friends and sometimes on their own. It made the characters more fleshed out and, in my opinion, made the fanservice more bearable because they were more than that, and the creator made sure that was known (though I was annoyed by the fact that all the girls cried WAAAAY more than they needed to and at times when I didn't think tears were warranted).

I feel that the anime threw all of that away and turned them into cardboard cut-out stereotypes in any harem show, barely resembling the series and characters I have grown to love and admire in their own ways. Any character development, deeper bonds pertaining to the group (not just with Tsukune), or new strengths and powers the characters (mostly the girls, but pertains to some of the boys, too) reached in the manga was gone and THAT, from both a fan of the manga and a feminist, makes me facepalm.

As MrEnter said in his Animated Atrocity on the Wayside episode: when you have an adapted show that destroys everything that was good about the books, then you know there's something wrong. :|

I love your rating of the anime because the manga was what I read first. There was so much more going on in the manga that they just blatantly ditched for extra boobs and panty shots time.

why my sister loved it so much is beyond me

Oh dear, it seems we have someone that pretends to know what they're talking about.
If you don't like fan-service or tv shows that lack an overarching plot, that's fine, but that shouldn't be a reason to say that something's bad. You can make the best sandwich in the world, but if someone doesn't like sandwiches, does that automatically make yours bad? No, it's just a difference of preferences and is not an actual fault with the series itself. I don't like the gross-out humor or heavy western influence in Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, but I would never say it's a bad show solely because it's not my cup of tea.
You complain about how they're not "accurately depicting classic monsters"? Seriously? These classic monsters have been reinterpreted millions of times. It's impossible to have a single, definitive interpretation of them.
I could go on and on and debunk your entire "review", but I feel like I've already given you more than enough of my attention.

This is about as bad as the old DiC/CWi dub of Sailor Moon. (Best anime has the worst dub of all time! Luckily there is a new one out and it is amazing!)
Geekygirl43 Featured By Owner Oct 13, 2014
On the contrary, 4kids one piece had the worst dub of all time. Let me present you with the evidence. Rather than having just episodes cut out, and mashed together, 4Piece had a filler arc, and two arcs that were very important to the story cut out entirely, and left an excruciating amount of plot holes.

Warship island arc: when it was cut out it left out details on why one can't just sail into the grand line.

Laboon Arc:Laboon was removed; had 4Kids continued the series, this would have left Brook without reason to join the crew later on.

Crocus was removed, resulting in the storyline being reworked to fit around his absence. The rework initially included just his Log Pose explanation that he gave the Straw Hats. Crocus, however, was a focused character during the Thriller Bark Arc and Sabaody Archipelago Arc. At the time other storylines that mention his importance to the One Piece world had not been reached in the original Japanese version. Plus, Mr.9 and Princess Vivi were presented there first and when they get to Whiskey Peak, they act like they know the strawhats, even though in the 4 piece dub they just met them.

Then came the cutting of Little garden:
Biggest plot holes of them all due to cutting this arc, after they visit Little Garden, Nami gets sick, which the 4kids dub says is grand line fever, yet in the Drum island Arc, Dr. Kureha asked if Nami was walking around a prehistoric island.

Also, then comes the issue with mr 3. There was no explanation to his appearance in Alabasta. he claims he was spying on them since Logue town, but Barouque works did not know about them until the story of Whiskey Peak in the 4kids dub. Also, Vivi talked about Mr 3 and Miss Golden Week as if they met them but in the 4kids dub, they didn't meet them at all. Also, in impel down Luffy would have no idea who Mr 3 was if they continued.

Let's not forget Dorry and Broggy, if the 4kids dub continued it would have created a major plot hole for Oimo and Kashi. Plus, Usopp wanted to go to Elbaff, but due to 4kids removing little garden, it created another plot hole.

I can at least get through an episode of that dub. I can not even bare rewatching 1 episode of the old DiC/CWi dub of Sailor Moon.

Ever read some of the poorly written fan fiction, resulted from the anime?
gamera68 Featured By Owner Jul 3, 2014  Hobbyist General Artist
I won't disagree but read the manga. It's a lot better and has a bigger fan-base.
Geekygirl43 Featured By Owner Jul 3, 2014
Oh, I've skimmed some pages, much better than this excuse of an anime.

OK, cool. Glad to hear it. Oh well yeah it had its moments.
I wont get into it, but if I hadn't heard of the anime then I never would've discovered the manga.

I never wish to be argumentative or down-rate anyones opinions, but it baffles me that you'd watch it in the first place if all these things bother you. Personally i enjoyed it, wasnt the best, but wasnt the worst. (My thoughts aside) Before watching any anime its always good to look at some brief reviews. There are many, many, many who dislike this type of anime for their reasons, But having said that its obvious from any small synopsis  of the show that this is what your going to get, its much easier to just avoid watching it then taking alot of time out of your day to write such a review. I also rather dislike the comment that you felt sorry for the voice actors, You dont know them, maybe they enjoyed it? And if they didnt, its still a job to them.  I mean i could argue this and that in defense of some aspects like your rant on vampiric mythology, you need to remember that vapires were originally just a story and that allows things to be changed and switched. , but your right, its a pretty low brow lame anime, But that's enjoyable for some people.

It all boils down to your tastes and why you watch anime, And thats something that differs to each person.
Me and my girlfriend love many of these because they are just silly 90% of the time, and in a serious world thats what we like to break from and get some cheep lame giggles. thats us.
You, quite obviously greatly dislike this type, and that's perfectly fine for you, But like i said, its odd that you'd even take the time to watch it when you could of avoided the whole mess and alot of your own time.

Anyway, ive taken up to much time, My whole idea of this was to point out that from a time consuming point of view it might be easier to just read some reviews and avoid ones you dislike.
Geekygirl43 Featured By Owner May 29, 2014
It's all part of making reviews dude, you need to watch in order to review. Outside of the panty shots, what really annoyed me were the characters, they all just want to sleep with Tsukune and if you look past the panty shots most of the plot is really boring compared to the manga.
Viracon Featured By Owner May 29, 2014  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Im not disagreeing with you per say, Im just stating that everything in your review isnt new, all these things are expected in that genre of anime and written in many other reviews. The characters go deeper if you have an open enough mind, Kurumu for example could easily sway Tsukune but prefers to gain his love rather then just take him against his will. Most of your points are right, but it just seems like alot of people watch these animes knowing what they are in for and then write a negative review like this all came to a shock to them.  Its like watching a really bad b-grade sifi movie then writing a review saying how bad the graphics and acting was, of coarse it will be bad that's the whole idea.

I've read the manga and am a total fan; but I agree with you regarding the anime version.  If you're in a really good mood and watch it you can smile, shake your head, and face-palm. (in that order)
But I can confirm that the original manga is hundreds of times superior to it's pathetic anime adaptation, once you get past book 4, Tsukune gradually becomes awesome, in other words a BAMF.  he fully participates in battles, goes mono e mono with foes at times and is shown to grow and mature as time goes on.  I would recommend anyone to read the manga and forget the anime ever happened.  Manga Tsukune has been my favorite cosplay as well.
Geekygirl43 Featured By Owner Apr 25, 2014
Yep, I've heard that across the fanbase that the manga is far better. I've skimmed a couple of chapters and there is about 95% less panty shots in comparison. Was that the biggest problem of the anime? Or was it something else?
SSJ-4-Gohan Featured By Owner Apr 28, 2014
Excessive panty shots and boob bouncing is a problem especially if you want an anime to be taken seriously.  But my biggest problem with the anime vs the manga is the main protagonist Tsukune himself.  in the anime he stays a spineless uninteresting wimp, and it becomes a running gag of him always being saved by the girls.  HE DOESN'T DO ANYTHING! He's more useless than Yamcha and he's supposed to be the main character.  You watch it and think: "there is absolutely no quality that makes him deserve the affections of all those girls."  Now granted the manga does start out similar and when I read it I laughed and shook my head at the stupidity of it all, but for reasons unknown I kept reading.  And Tsukune got awesome; injected with vampiric blood nearly losing himself and becoming a mindless berserker and perservering through it all.  So as you read the manga you think: "this character is going through some serious shit, he's working damn hard to keep those he cares about safe and happy.  Give that man a harem!"  To sum it all up (Too late!) people don't like watching someone get handed everything on a silver platter, which is what anime Tsukune got; all those babes that stayed for little or no reason, while manga tsukune gave a reason. (whew!) okay I think that's everything.
thesage2600 Featured By Owner Apr 26, 2014
The anime pandered more to the slice of life, harem hijinks that the manga only sort of started off with (it was still darker and the ecchi stuff wasn't as prevelent).
